I don't go camping but that may change.  I bought this lantern in case of power outages and for the same reason I chose the HC65 head light.  I decided I won't get anything that uses AA or AAA batteries anymore.  To actually get good light output with long runtime, you need to use larger batteries and the 18650 is a good choice as it's still compact but offers good run times.

I was skeptical about how much light it would actually put out. Lights up a completely dark room about as well as a 40w lightbuld would. Plenty of light for a room for power outages. Also will prove useful for me for work for working in enclosed spaces.

The Nitecore LR30 camping light provides the user three levels of light up to 205 lumens plus a red light powerful enough to allow you to read without disturbing those around you. I have found it to be extremely practical.  Using the recommended 18650 rechargeable battery(optional) adds to the overall practicality of the light.
